Having completed this course, you will be able to handle stress effectively by:

• recognising the factors that cause stress in the workplace
• implementing initiatives that reduce or eliminate these causes
• converting potentially stressful situations to positive events

The causes of stress are many, and this course explores those most commonly found in the workplace. The solutions to stress are equally diverse, and are dependent on the underlying causes. During this course we examine these causes and consider some effective approaches to stress control and prevention. You will, therefore, be able to recognise the causes of stress, either in yourself or your staff, manage its reduction or elimination and take steps to handle and live with stressful situations.

Around half a million workers in the UK report that they have been made ill by stress at work.

Stress is now recognised globally as a condition that can affect all categories of workers, in all types of jobs and living in all types of social environments. It is also recognised as a major contributor to behaviour change, psychological dysfunction and serious health problems. Stress, therefore, can have a major impact on both people's lives and the company bottom line.
