Course Overview

This First Aid training course has been created by the Virtual College, in partnership with First Response Training, to give learners the underpinning knowledge of how to act in the event of an incident requiring first aid assistance.

Cost: £30 +vat for a single user

The overall aim of this module is to provide an overview of what you need to know to act safely and effectively in the event of an incident requiring first aid assistance.

On completion of this module learners will:

• Know what to do if you are first on the scene of an incident
• Be able to assess the situation as a potential danger zone
• Understand what is meant by AVPU
• Know the key processes to follow and what to do for each one: Danger, Response, Shout, Airway, breathing
• Understand the importance of the recovery position and how to apply it

The learning material is underpinned by the use of video scenarios and learners are encouraged to consider how you would apply these in their own situations.

The module comes with an online assessment and certificate on achieving a satisfactory pass mark.

Having completed the learning and assessment, learners will get the opportunity to take the "primary survey challenge" - you are first on the scene of an accident where someone is injured, pit your wits against the 3 minute clock and see how you do in this real life scenario. This "Challenge" is not part of your assessment - it is there simply to help you consolidate your learning.

Target Audience

This module is relevant to anyone who may find themselves first on the scene of an incident involving a casualty, whether in a work, volunteering or personal capacity.

Accreditation

On completion of this e-learning course you will be able to download a Virtual College certificate.

Duration

As an e-learning course learners are able to work at their own pace, breaking off and resuming their study as appropriate, but it is expected that the e-learning material will take approximately 1-2 hours to complete.

What

This is an online course, all the training will be taken through your browser window.
There will be no face-to-face sessions with instructors nor will you receive any training material through the post.
If you wish you may print out any page of the training material, and may also print the notes you took during the training.

You can also revisit the training material at any time, even after you have completed the course.

How

The material for this course has been broken down into several smaller lessons, each lesson dealing with a specific area of the overall subject.

The lessons consist of a series of pages in which an instructor will talk you through the lesson material at a pace that suits you.

Pages may also include supporting pictures, graphs, animation or extra sounds to help with the learning where appropriate. Some lessons will include challenges/quizzes to help you keep in touch and interested in the material.

Lessons can be taken in any order and each lesson may be PAUSED and RESUMED at any stage. When all lessons in the course have been completed our system will realise and automatically record that you have successfully completed the course.

When

The course is self-paced so you decided how fast or slow the training goes. This course will take approximately 1 - 2 hours to complete, however you can complete the course in stages revisiting the training at any time.
